Five kidnapped Chinese freed in Indonesia’s Aceh

BANDA ACEH, Indonesia -- Five Chinese nationals who were kidnapped in Indonesia’s Aceh province at the weekend were released on Tuesday, police said. Gunmen had seized seven Chinese and one Indonesian who were working with a local mining firm in a forest in the Gayo Lues area on Saturday and demanded a ransom of more than US$30,000, Provincial police spokesman Jodi Haryadi said.

Aceh Police Chief Inspector General Rismawan said the remaining five hostages were found on Tuesday, 1 km (0.6 miles) from where they had been abducted whilst surveying a potential tin mining site. The kidnappers did not take any ransom.
