Lightning kills 3 farmers in central Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesia -- Police say lightning killed three farmers as they were harvesting rice on Indonesia’s main island of Java. The incident occurred Wednesday in Kebumen village during a heavy downpour.

Police Sgt. Ahmad Marsudi says two men died instantly, while the third died of burns in a nearby hospital less than 24 hours later.

The men were thrown several meters across the rice paddy by the lightning bolt.
