One dead in shooting at Indian Kashmir market

SRINAGAR, India -- A civilian was killed and four other people were wounded Tuesday when suspected militants attacked a police patrol in the summer capital of Indian Kashmir, police said.

“One civilian died in hospital and two others were injured. Two CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel were also wounded,” a police officer said.

The daylight shooting took place in Lal Chowk, the main market area of Srinagar. It sparked panic as people ran for cover and troops moved in to search for the attackers.

Three policemen were killed in the previous three attacks.
