1 dead, 4 wounded in attack in Indian Kashmir

SRINAGAR, India -- Two suspected rebels opened fire in a crowded shopping district in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir on Tuesday, killing one civilian and wounding three paramilitary soldiers, police said.

Another civilian was injured in the attack, said senior police officer Hemant Lohia. One of the injured soldiers was hospitalized and in critical condition.

Panicked shoppers fled as police rushed to the central Lal Chowk district of Srinagar, the main city in Indian Kashmir, where the shooting occurred.
