India lodges new complaint against China on Kashmir

NEW DELHI -- India raised the pitch of an increasingly testy row with China over disputed border areas on Tuesday, warning Beijing about its involvement in Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

“The Chinese side is fully aware of India's position and our concerns about Chinese activities,” foreign ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said in response to a Chinese statement that it would remain engaged in Pakistan.

“We hope that the Chinese side will take a long term view of the India-China relations and cease such activities in areas illegally occupied by Pakistan,” Prakash said.

India and China traded diplomatic jabs Tuesday over a recent visit by Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to an Indian border region at the core of a long-standing dispute between the neighbors.

Singh visited Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India on October 3 to campaign ahead of state elections there, but refrained from saying anything on China or the border dispute.

Last month, China offered financial help to Pakistan to build a multi-billion-dollar dam in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, which led New Delhi to complain to Islamabad.

India and Pakistan have fought two wars over Kashmir, which is administered by the two countries but claimed by both sides in full. The region was split following the partition of the subcontinent at the end of British rule in 1947.

India and China also fought a brief but bitter border war in 1962.

The planned US$12.6 billion Diamir-Bhasha dam on the Indus river in Pakistan-administered Kashmir is set to produce 4,500 megawatts of power, aimed at overcoming major electricity shortages in the region.

China is on the path to nuclear war with its belligerent statements on India. The Indian nuclear missile Agni-III can reach Shanghai, Hong Kong and Beijing. Does China want to risk destruction?

Is it me or does China have territorial disputes with nearly all of its neighbors?

Most of the Indians do not believe in China, why? Rather than India does not want any dispute with China.

China will be making a mistake if it thinks the India of 2009 is the same as the India of 1962. Public opinion in India will make the Government sit up and act to defend the country's borders, whatever may be the cost.

That China can get rattled by the Dalai Lama is surprising and shows the Chinese insecurity.

Why what has changed since 1962....... The Chinese have become stronger & the Indian's still believe their own hype, stop watching Bollywood, it’s not real!!

China would wipe the floor with India. Without going into much detail, the Chinese are more organized, have superior fire power & a bigger modern army.

Indian's are more insecure than anyone I know, a little Criticism and you get loads of Indians responding with their baseless facts/figures & abusive language.

India is no superpower, the west have hyped them up into believing they are, once bled dry of all resources they will be left for the lions.....be warned.

Is that the reason, China is showing hegemony with all the neighbors?

Is this the reason, China is showing patronage to those who lick its ass and showing hegemony to other neighbors who do not fall in line?

What has hegemony & patronage anything to to do with what I wrote, if your going to respond to a comment I made then please use words that are in context.

It makes me laugh when I see Indians making comments on websites, they are so arrogant & bullish when they sit at home in India, but when they leave the shores of India and come into the real world they are like frightened little children, submissive to their Western masters.... all I hear is yes sir, yes sir, thank you sir.... very amusing.

Hey Erud,
You wrote about India's nuclear capabilities. Very impressive, but China has a very impressive military. Your neighbors, Pakistan, Bangladesh, etc., don't like India too much. War with China is a bad option.

India is over matched vs. China. The USSR is not around to balance things out for her. This is not to say India is not powerful, but in every way China is stronger. Rather than challenge India should make sure they are so entrenched in the disputed regions that any attempt to take them would cost far more than they are worth. Perhaps a re-direct should be used. India should announce it supports unequivocal annexation of Mongolia by China in return for her ending her support for Pakistan and relinquishing all claims in the disputes with India.
