New Zealand teenager survives 16-story fall

WELLINGTON -- A New Zealand teenager has survived a 16-story fall from his family's Auckland apartment and is expected to make a full recovery, the New Zealand Herald reported Monday.

The 15-year-old was in a stable condition in hospital with a broken wrist, broken rib, gouged leg and internal injuries three days after his 50-meter (160-foot) plunge.

The boy fell from the balcony of his parent's apartment and crashed through the steel roof of the building's carpark, which cushioned his fall before he landed on a concrete floor, the building manager Jason Epps-Eades told the newspaper.

He was taken to taken to hospital in a serious condition but had since stabilized and was expected to be discharged this week.
