Updated Friday, July 20, 2007 0:00 am TWN, CHENNAI, India, AFP Grandmother dumped in garbageThe victim, Chinnammal Palaniappan, told her rescuers that she was taken from her home by her grandsons and woke up on Sunday morning to find herself among a heap of rotting garbage, but was too weak to move. “We heard some moaning from the dump yard and when we went over we were shocked to find an old shriveled woman lying in filth,” housewife P. Mohanasundari, who rescued the grandmother over the weekend, told AFP Thursday. With her husband’s help, Mohanasundari brought the woman home and fed her, before handing her over to charity workers. “Chinnammal broke down recalling how her grandsons put her in their motor cart, which they used for transporting cattle feed, and drove a long distance before dumping her in garbage,” Mohanasundari said. The rescued woman said her daughter had instructed the grandsons to dump her far away, so that she could not find her way back. “There was no anger in her, only a flood of sorrow as she begged us to take her back to her daughter,” Mohanasundari said by telephone from Erode town in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. The victim, however, could not be sent home as she did not have the address. | Breaking News Most Read |
