Basketball star Yao Ming to marry sporty girlfriend

The 27-year-old Houston Rockets star will wed Ye Li, a member of the Chinese women’s basketball team, who he has been dating for several years, the South China Morning Post said.

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey let the marriage plans slip when he was asked about Yao’s summer plans and said: “He’s working out in China in July, then getting married in August.”

Yao’s adviser Lu Hao confirmed the marriage plans to the Hong Kong-based newspaper, but said the date and venue for the wedding had not yet been decided.

In January, Yao dismissed as “ridiculous” rumors that he was dating an American actress who is only 1.57 meters tall.

At 1.9 meters, Ye Li, a center for the Chinese national women’s team, is much closer in height to 2.29-meter Yao.
