The tour has been scheduled in a bid to publicize the beauty of the Hakkanese arts and culture on international stages, and promote Hakkanese cultural exchanges at home and abroad. During its tour, Rom Shing Hakka Opera Troupe will stage five performances, in such cities as Los Angeles, Houston, Washington and New York in the U.S., and Toronto in Canada. Since its founding in 1988, the Rom Shing Hakka Opera Troupe has performed nationwide, winning numerous group awards at Taiwan Hakka Opera Competitions. It is also listed as “Intangible Cultural Heritage” of Miaoli County, northern Taiwan for its preservation of Hakka opera and assistance in the development of social education. Besides regular performances at religious ceremonies and art festivals, Rom Shing has successfully brought traditional Hakka opera to a new level, performing at the National Opera House and during state banquets.
