Opera master invited to promote art form in NYCNA TAIPEI -- Taiwanese opera master Liao Chiung-chih has been invited by Taiwan's representative office in New York City to help generate interest in this traditional dramatic art form in the U.S. city.
August 11, 2010, 10:06 am TWN The Taipei Cultural Center, part of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, has asked Liao to deliver a lecture at an event to promote Taiwanese opera on Aug. 13 and will also screen an award-winning documentary about her life in which she stars. Liao is widely hailed as Taiwan's best ku dan — a major sorrowful female character in Taiwanese opera — and the finest performer of Eastern operatic arias for her distinguished portrayal of tragic female roles.
