Updated Monday, January 4, 2010 2:17 pm TWN, By Sunnie Chen, CNA Tan Dun to showcase new music in Taiwan performance arts festivalThe 2010 Taiwan International Festival will feature the premiere of 12 programs in Taiwan, including "1433 - The Grand Voyages", a flagship production directed and designed by well-known director Robert Wilson, said Liu Chungshu, the artistic director of the National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center. The festival program will also include the musical "On the Road", in which an aboriginal spirit leads a quest of dreams against a background of the sound of mountains and the ocean, Liu said. In addition, Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun will showcase a new version of his famous "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon." The piece depicts the atmosphere of the traditional Chinese martial arts world as well as a story of love and forgiveness. In this concert, the audience will also hear Tan Dun's first Internet symphony "Eroica, " a piece full of powerful impact. It was originally written for the YouTube network symphony project and performed by musicians from all over the world gathered by YouTube in New York. Now you can hear it in the concert hall in Taipei. Dance programs will also play an important role in the festival. Among them, the new work "Listening To The River" created by Lin Hwai-min, the founder and director of the famous Taiwan-based Cloud Gate Dance Theater, will likely draw worldwide attention. The National Chiang Kai-Shek Cultural Center aims to present the diversified cultures of Taiwan and countries around the world in this festival from Feb. 19 - March 28.
