Taipei Summer Jazz Party to feature top int'l artists

TAIPEI -- This year's Summer Jazz Party in Taipei will feature top international jazz artists, including U.S. drummer Jimmy Cobb, best-known for his work with Miles Davis, the organizer said.

Cobb, who plays on Davis' iconic “Kind of Blue,” one of the most influential jazz recordings of all time, will perform Aug. 15, according to the National Theater and Concert Hall (NTCH).

He will appear with alto saxophonist Antonio Hart and trumpeter Michael Mossman from the United States, as well as several Taiwanese and a Japanese jazz artist, NTCH said.

American guitarist John Pizzarelli and his quartet will perform Aug. 23, while Cuban trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, who has won nine Grammy awards, will give his first concert in Taiwan Aug. 29 with his sextet, according to the NTCH.

The annual Summer Jazz Party will end with a concert by Italian jazz singer Roberta Gambarini and her band Sept. 13.

All the concerts will take place at the National Concert Hall, although free outdoor jazz performances will also be held at the NTCH's main plaza Aug. 8 and 9.
