Taiwanese bands, rapper rock Singapore festival

TAIPEI -- Taiwanese musicians have energized audiences in Singapore over the past three days with performances at the Music Matters festival.

Rapper MC HotDog and rock bands Quarterback and The 13 Band took to the stage on Clarke Quay in a series of performances from May 22-24.

Cheng Feng-sheng, guitarist and leader of Quarterback, said he is glad to be able to tell stories of Taiwan to foreign audiences through music. The group played their popular songs such as “Up” and “Rock Me To The Moon.”

MC HotDog, meanwhile, electrified the audience with his hit songs, including “I Love Taiwanese Girls” and “Mr. Almost.”

The rapper, born Yao Chung-jen, said he avoided uttering some curse words out of respect for the more conservative culture in Singapore.

Over 60 bands from 18 countries staged more than 170 shows at the festival.
