Taiwanese band Mayday heads to Amsterdam

PARIS -- Taiwanese band Mayday is heading to Amsterdam to round up its first European tour, after rocking thousands of fans in Paris on Sunday.

"Next stop, Amsterdam, the 'Flower City.' Here we come," band members wrote on their Facebook page Monday.

The rock band will hold the third and final leg of its European tour at the Heineken Music Hall in the Dutch capital on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, over 4,000 fans, many of them ethnic Chinese, attended the band's concert in Paris on Sunday, waving blue glow sticks to create the effect of a vast blue ocean at the Zenith arena.

Gu Jiewen, a Chinese fan who traveled from Germany to France for the concert, said she has visited Taiwan three times for Mayday concerts and was not going to miss out on the opportunity to attend the band's concert in Paris.

The band also attracted an enthusiastic reception from over 10,000 fans in London on Feb. 21.

After its stop in Amsterdam, the five-member band will embark on a tour of Canada and the United States in March.

The tours are part of the band's Nowhere World Tour, which has taken it to dozens of major Asian cities over the past two years, attracting more than 2.4 million people.

Formed in the late 1990s, the band is known for its roots as a student band and for capturing the spirit of Taiwanese youth.

It has claimed the Best Band title at the annual Golden Melody Awards — Taiwan's version of the Grammies — in 2001, 2004, 2009 and 2012.
