People aged 21 or over are encouraged to upload videos to YouTube of themselves performing one of four designated songs by Sept. 17, Google Taiwan announced Sunday.
Google said it is holding the contest as the number of users who are fans of Mandopop increases and more and more music fans track their favorite stars through YouTube.
Participants must choose from: “Change Me” by Taiwan-based American singer Leehom Wang; “Sky So High” by Taiwan's Shin Band; “Big Big Hug” by local singer A Lin; and Whitney Houston's “One Moment in Time.”
Contestants are free to adapt their pick in ways they see fit and decide the style they perform in. Individuals or bands can then upload their videos to YouTube.
A panel of judges including singer Ailing Tai, who is known for her high notes and power, and award-winning producer Jamie Hsueh, along with Internet users who cast their votes on YouTube, will decide the winner.
