Daniel Craig finally confirms he'll be back as James Bond

NEW YORK - After once saying he'd rather slash his wrists than play James Bond again, Daniel Craig has confirmed that he'll be back as 007.

After weeks of speculation, Craig confirmed his return as the British secret agent to US TV host Stephen Colbert on "The Late Show" on Tuesday night.

"Many people know you as James Bond. I think you're the greatest Bond," Colbert said to racuous applause.

"I have been quite cagey about it. I have been doing interviews all day and people have been asking me and I think I've been rather coy," Craig said. "But I felt like if I was to speak the truth, I should speak the truth to you."

"Daniel Craig, we could use some good news here," Colbert urged. "Daniel Craig, will you return as James Bond?"

Craig finally replied: "Yes," to loud cheers from the audience,

He said he'd known for a couple of months.

It will be Craig's fifth Bond film after "Casino Royale," "Quantum of Solace," "Skyfall" and "Spectre."

The next Bond film, the 25th in the series, is due out in November 2019.
