Cha Cha Cha films to back ‘Mother and Child’

MEXICO CITY -- Production company Cha Cha Cha Films is reportedly backing an English-language movie by the son of Nobel Prize-winning novelist Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Mexican newspaper Excelsior says Rodrigo Garcia will produce “Mother and Child,” about a woman who gave up her daughter 35 years ago and another who is looking for a baby to adopt. The paper says it could star Naomi Watts and Annette Bening and have a US$7 million budget. Shooting is to begin in early 2009 in Los Angeles. Cha Cha Cha was founded last year by Mexican directors Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo del Toro and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu in partnership with Universal Pictures. A spokeswoman for Inarritu did not immediately return a call seeking to confirm Tuesday’s report.
