Updated Friday, March 12, 2010 4:58 pm TWN, By Lillian Lin, CNA Taiwanese director presents documentaries to New York audienceOng said the New York TECO and Asian CineVision, a non-profit media arts organization dedicated to promoting and preserving Asian and Asian American media, jointly sponsored the event to promote Taiwanese artists. The first of the films shown was the 49-minute documentary "The Gangsters' God" produced in 2006, which tells the story of an annual fireworks festival in southern Taiwan, as well as the customs and urban legends around the human incarnations of a local deity. Known for her handling of marginal and non-mainstream subjects, Ho in 2008 produced and directed "El Salvador Journal, " the second of the films shown, which depicts the relations between laborers and the management of a Taiwanese- invested factory in El Salvador. The 54-minute documentary inspired many of the audience, who were keen to ask Ho how she chooses her subjects and manages to reach the protagonists in the stories.
