An international jury picked Lee’s film — the only entry from Southeast Asia — for the Special Award of the Jury. Lee told reporters that it had never occurred to him that the film would win an award at the Mannheim-Heidelberg Film Festival. In Taipei, the Government Information Office said Crazy Beautiful is entitled to a cash award of NT$200,000 from the government for winning an international honor. Lee said that after receiving the award on the stage, he “praised the courage of the jury” for picking his work for the award. He said the three actresses in the film were all acting in a movie for the first time, and that their performances were “surprisingly beautiful.” The film depicts the friendship among three young girls, their love for one another and craving for the opposite sex. They all fall in love, feel hurt, forget and have experiences that are random. Everything seems to happen by chance and beyond reason, with chaos being just another name for youth. The film is scheduled to be screened in theaters around Taiwan beginning in April next year. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%. Click here |
