TAIPEI--Searching for restaurants has become easier with the launch of a mobile application by restaurant website OpenRice Ltd. Wednesday.
The free app allows anyone to find, rate and leave comments on more than 90,000 restaurants in Taiwan, as well as over 1 million food outlets across nine Asian countries, according to the website.
Founded in 1999 in Hong Kong and beginning operation in Taiwan last November, OpenRice is targeting 200,000 downloads of the app within a month, along with 300,000 registered members in Taiwan to the website, said OpenRice Country Manager Carlos Lee.
“We wish to offer more convenient mobile services for restaurant-goers in Taiwan,” Lee said at a press conference announcing the app.
OpenRice Managing Director Jan Wong said the website's revenues come from advertising, as well as back-end management services designed for restaurants, such as online reservations and promotional campaigns.
Looking ahead, OpenRice will also focus on other key markets like Indonesia and Thailand, where smartphone users account for a large part of mobile phone users, she said.
