TAIPEI -- Directors of the World Design Capital (WDC) project are set to gather at the 2014 Taipei World Design Conference March 29 to share how different cities have improved citizens' lives through design.
Speakers will include Liu Wei gong, commissioner of the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs; Soon-in Lee, president of the Seoul Design Center; Paola Zini, director-general of WDC Torino; Pekka Timonen, executive director of WDC Helsinki, and Richard Perez, program director of WDC Cape Town.
Each is scheduled to discuss how design drove urban renewal and tackled problems faced by the respective cities, according to the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs, the conference organizer.
Other experts from Taiwan and France are also slated to talk about city marketing, innovation and renewal.
Taipei last year won the title of 2016 World Design Capital, becoming only the fifth city to earn the honor.
Torino was the first design capital in 2008, followed by Seoul in 2010, Helsinki in 2012, and Cape Town in 2014.
