3C firms gear up for 2013 app show

TAIPEI--The 2013 Taipei Computer Applications Show, set to open on Aug. 1, will feature products from 200 computer, communication and consumer electronics companies, organizers said on Tuesday.
The annual trade show, which will run through Aug. 5 at Hall One of the Taipei World Trade Center, is seen as a summer shopping season battleground for products such as laptops, smartphones, tablets, and digital cameras, with vendors offering discounts and special deals to attract consumers.
The computer show is expected to attract as many as 600,000 visitors, according to the Taipei Computer Association (TCA), the co-organizer of the show along with the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).
Chunghwa Telecom Co. said it will be offering discounts on several tablets, such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, Asus Fonepad and Huawei Media Pad Vogue, and feature new tablets from Asus and Samsung.
The exhibits will be divided into seven clusters, consisting of computer system brands, computer system retailers, computer accessories and peripherals, digital audio and video products, smart mobile applications, digital entertainment and news media, the TCA said.
Acer Inc., Asustek Computer Inc. and HTC Corp. are among the major Taiwanese companies participating in the annual computer trade show, along with telecom leaders Chunghwa Telecom Co., Taiwan Mobile Co. and Far Eastone Telecommunications Co., the TCA said.
