A guide to travel during the Chinese New Year

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- It is the best of times, it is the worst of times. Traveling during the Chinese New Year is always such a sweet dilemma. On one hand, what's better than going out and having fun with your family and friends during the longest public holiday of the year? On the other, there is nothing worse than spending hours on these trips annoyed and stuck in traffic. For those who are brave enough to hit the road, here is The China Post's guide to getting out this holiday season.

Where to Go?

According to a poll by the Commerce Development Research Institute, the top three popular tourist attractions are the southern resort of Kenting (墾丁), Cingjing Farm (清境農場) in the central county of Nantou, and Yangmingshan (陽明山) in Taipei. Of course being popular means that these locations will be crowded — but knowing why these locations are drawing people may give you some ideas planning a good trip.

Some might not expect Kenting, located on the southernmost tip of the island, to be a Chinese News Year people magnet. But it actually makes good sense going for a summerish seaside travel destination during winter. For those who don't want to brave the crowds in Kenting, however, a heartwarming trip to hot springs is a good alternative.

Renowned for its picturesque mountain views and green meadows, Cingjing Farm is one of the most famous tourist hotspots in Taiwan. But if you haven't noticed, Taiwan is blessed with an abundance of postcard perfect mountains.
