It is the ninth year that the Taipei City government has organized the festival to promote beef noodles, one of the most popular dishes in Taiwan. The festival will begin with an essay competition on the topic of “encountering beef noodles,” followed by a series of related activities and competitions this year.
The beef noodle festival has attached importance to integrating academic resources, hoping to provide students as well as academia with a well-established cooperative education platform, said Huang Chi-jui (黃啟瑞), commissioner of the Taipei City Department of Economic Development.
The preliminary round of the beef noodle contest will be held in both Southern and Northern Taiwan for the first time this year, said Huang Yi-yu (黃以育), the director of TCOOC. The first round in Southern Taiwan will be held at Taiwan Shoufu University on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6. The first round in Northern Taiwan will take place at Kai Nan High School of Commerce and Industry on Oct. 19 and Oct. 20. The final round of the beef noodle contest will take place at Taipei Expo Park on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10. Competition categories include traditional stew, clear broth, and creative style, she added.
Huang Yi-yu said this year is the first time that the event will include an invitational competition format, inviting 10 foreign chefs from various countries to go head to head in the championship.
