Hundreds greet Japanese singer at Taipei airport

TAIPEI -- Around 300 fans turned out Thursday to greet Japanese singer-songwriter Masaharu Fukuyama (福山雅治) on his arrival in Taipei for his first ever concert in Taiwan.

Sporting a black jacket and jeans, Fukuyama smiled and waved at the screaming crowd at the Taipei Songshan Airport.

“Hi everyone, I am Masaharu Fukuyama,” the star said in Chinese to the press.

He said he has been looking forward to holding a concert in Taiwan for three years and is “very excited” to be able to do so this time.

He did not reveal what he has planned for the concert at the Taipei arena Saturday, saying he hopes to “give everyone a surprise.”

The singer will rehearse for his performance at the Taipei Arena Friday. He has no public schedule over the next two days.
