In response to a question at a basketball promotion event, Lin said he has never really thought about joining China's national team and will only be able to give a better answer if the possibility arrives.
The 23-year-old point guard was also asked to comment on the recent performances of the Chinese basketball team, which failed to win any games at the just concluded Olympic Games in London.
Every player would have tried his best to win and honor his country, so it is not fair to judge them based on a few games, Lin said, adding that success is the result of a long process that involves many factors.
“Exercising everyday keeps you healthy forever,” noted Lin, who attended the event as the basketball ambassador for China's Kentucky Fried Chicken, in Mandarin, a language he is not fluent in.
Despite being unfamiliar with the language, the Harvard graduate said that his Chinese has improved lately.
During his current visit to Asia, he has been practicing basketball every day, he said.
