Updated Saturday, November 14, 2009 2:28 pm TWN, By Hilton Yip, The China Post “I Love You More Than My Dog”Bliss uses real-life case studies to illustrate five key points that she describes as vital for companies to create a loyal customer base. Businesses must believe and trust their employees and customers, determine a clear purpose beyond the bottom line, be reliable, develop strong relationships with customers, and be able to apologize and take full responsibility for any problems. Much of the content consists of brief profiles of companies ranging from giants such as Apple to smaller firms like handmade soap maker Lush in a variety of industries. Bliss doesn't actually provide much detailed advice, however. This has the useful effect of simplifying her points and demonstrating their flexibility, whether it comes to providing unlimited warranties or empowering employees to make decisions. Yet there is a sense of vagueness as Bliss' lack of in-depth explanations on how to achieve the five recommended conditions weakens her message. “I Love You More Than My Dog” is an easy-to-read book that provides lessons useful for all businesses. The key point comes across crystal clear: successful companies are the ones that make a strong effort to care for their customers as well as their employees. Subscribe to The China Post and save 25%.
