Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen to join Swedish literary roundtable

STOCKHOLM -- Bangladeshi novelist Taslima Nasreen will Tuesday make her first public appearance since she fled death threats from Islamic militants, organizers of a literary meeting in Sweden said Sunday. Nasreen will join a roundtable discussion in Stockholm with other writers also threatened in their own countries, organizers from the Writers’ and Literary Translators’ International Congress (WALTIC) said in a statement.

The 45-year-old gynecologist-turned-author was recently granted a two-year safe haven in the Swedish town of Uppsala, 70 kilometers (45 miles) from Stockholm, after living under Indian government protection in Kolkata.
