Local museums to observe International Museum Day

TAIPEI -- Museums around Taiwan are planning special events or will offer free admission on May 18 to celebrate International Museum Day.

A total of 115 museums, including the National Palace Museum in Taipei, will hold events showcasing the theme of this year's Museum Day — “Museum Collections Make Connections” — to bring themselves closer to the public, according to the Ministry of Culture.

On May 17, for example, children's theater actors will dress up as cultural artifacts at the National Palace Museum and introduce museum collections to children through music, dance and theater, the museum said.

Admission will be free on May 18 at some museums. More information about the events is available at the Chinese-language website: http://www.518museumday.tw/
