By Wen Shin Kuo, The China PostBeautiful landscapes have always been a source of inspiration across all the art forms. Senior Taiwanese photographer Wu Tung-shin (吳東興) experiences exactly this, converting inspiration from his scenic travels around the country into a string of magnificent images.

Wu, who is also the chairman of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi, is putting his most breathtaking pictures on display in the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi International Photography Exhibition (新光三越國際攝影聯展) from March 7 to 24 at its Taipei Xinyi A9 store (台北信義新光三越).
It is the seventh photography exhibition Wu has organized, and while he takes pleasure in the art itself, the shows do a lot more than just fuel his creative passion. Through this exhibition, for example, he hopes to raise awareness about protecting the environment of the North Coast as well as various nature reserves around Taiwan
Drawing inspiration from the majestic scenery of the country's North Coast, Wu showcases Yehliu Geopark's (野柳) most famous rock formations, the Queen's Head, in his photography.
Yehliu Geopark holds a special place in Wu's heart, as 50 years ago, when the area was an unknown and remote fishing village, he discovered this landscape of rare and stunning rock formations, and couldn't help but return. He called it the “Forgotten Paradise.”
Time after time he came back with camera in hand, exploring this hidden gem of the island through the eye of the camera. And it was through the eye of the camera, in pictures and exhibitions, that Yehliu gained its popularity and fame.
Now, five decades later, Wu rekindles his passion and presents the unparalleled majesty of Taiwan's landscapes — again through the camera lens.
The Shin Kong Mitsukoshi International Photography Exhibition is also showcasing an exhibition by renowned artists Sean Lotman and Ariko Inaoka in the “One Plus One is Three” show. Other exhibitions also include the winning entries of the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi International Photo-taking Contest. ■
