Behind the scenes of 'Pi'

Explore behind the scenes of award-winning director Ang Lee's first 3D film, "Life of Pi," in an exclusive exhibition presented by 20th Century Fox and the Taichung City Government (台中市政府) at the Taichung National Museum of Natural Science (NMNS, 國立自然科學博物館) from now until Feb. 24, 2013.

The Oscar-winning director took four years to shoot "Life of Pi," an adaptation of the novel of the same title written by Canadian author Yann Martel. The movie, which filmed for more than a year in scenic Taichung, premiered at the New York Film Festival last week.

The extraordinary film, which will hit Taiwan cinemas on Nov. 21. tells the story of an Indian boy named Pi who is stranded on a lifeboat for 227 days with an orangutan, a hyena, a wounded zebra and a Bengal tiger called Richard Parker.

At the NMNS, the "Life of Pi" exhibition offers an exclusive sneak peak into both the making of the wonderful fantasy and into the mind of Lee. The exhibition also features movie props, interactive installations and 3D images.

There are three thrilling sections in the exhibition for visitors to explore. The first presents messages from the director and provides a thorough introduction of the main actor and of the movie's already famous Bengal tiger.

The second part of the exhibition offers a fun and interactive learning platform explaining survival skills at sea and features a special appearance by Tomislav Torjanac, the Croatian painter and illustrator.

In the third section, visitors will become aquainted with the various peculiar animals Pi encounters through his adventure via detailed and exquisite exhibitions. Visitors can look forward to the leaping whales, phosphorescent fish, crouching tigers and more wonderful works combining cinematic creation and classic storytelling. ■
