Master photographer delivers 'Taiwan Impression'

Do you knowhy most people sleep so much? Perhaps they really don't have anything else to do. Those who rise with the sun, however, all have one thing in common with photographer Wu Tung-shin (吳東興) — the love of beautiful landscapes.

The chairman of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi is showcasing his impressions of Taiwan for the first time at the 2012 Shin Kong Mitsukoshi International Photography Exhibition (2012新光三越國際攝影聯展). The exhibit, which runs from now until Oct. 14 in Taipei's Xinyi District, highlights his loves for Taiwan and photography through several heart-felt pieces, which feature every corner of the island.

Wu has paid attention as the art of photography has evolved through the advancement of digitization and image technology, and the photographer has mad sure to take advantage of these new techniques to present Taiwan's landscapes. “Digital technology may not be indispensable to photography, but it sure builds variety into the dynamics of image capturing,” he said.

With the theme “Taiwan Impression,” Wu slips away from his duties as chairman for a few moments in life, indulging in his hobby of recording the unwritten stories folded in the wrinkles of Taiwan. To him, photography is snapping the timeless moments in everyday life trough his lenses. He hopes the international exhibition can become a sharing platform for photography talents from around the world.

In addition to Wu's photos, the 2012 Mitsukoshi International Photography Exhibition displays numerous talented photographers' artworks, spanning topics from society and travel to culturale phenomena.

Now in its sixth year, the Mitsukoshi Exhibition is a large-scale photography event that gathers the works of talented photographers from around the world. Acclaimed Japanese photographer Michael Yamashita is showing his newest works from Shangri-La, China. The masterpieces are also presented in a new book released to coincide with the exhibition.

The International Photography Exhibition is located at the A9 building of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi — Exhibition & Banquet hall in Xinyi New Life Square. In addition to the exhibitions, Shin Kong has also scheduled lectures from professional photographers ■
