Taiwanese artists set for French comic strip festival

PARIS -- Two Taiwanese comic book authors will attend the International Festival of the Comic Strip of Chambery Oct. 15-17 in France to meet with readers there, according to the program published on the festival's official website.

The two Taiwanese comic artists — Akru and Selena Lin — are highlighted on the festival's website under the heading “Taiwanese comics to debut in Europe.”

Visitors to the website can browse the biographies and photos of the two artists and view the covers of their comic books. The site — http: //www.chamberybd.fr/ — also provides information on the development of comics in Taiwan.

The festival provides a platform for about 50 comic strip artists to present their work and interact with readers.

The organizers of the festival, who were perhaps more familiar with with Taiwan movies and animation than comics, were impressed when they read Akru's comics and predicted “they will be popular in France,” Taiwan's Government Information Office (GIO) said.
