NYC art project invites conversation about Iraq

NEW YORK -- A new exhibition at a New York City museum wants to get people talking about Iraq. Meant to be politically neutral, the unscripted project, “It Is What It Is: Conversations About Iraq,” opened at the New Museum on Wednesday. It was conceived by British artist Jeremy Deller, who is acclaimed for his collaborative projects.

The show's only object is the shell of a rusty, crumpled car destroyed by a bomb in 2007 in a popular Baghdad book market. It serves as a visual aid for encouraging conversation with visitors and a rotating cast of Iraqi refugees, soldiers, journalists and other experts invited by the museum.
