The 62-by-32-inch relief, which has been on view in the museum’s European Paintings and Decorative Arts Galleries since 1996, fell during the night, the statement said. An investigation was launched to determine the cause of the accident. Wall mounts and pedestals are regularly inspected for structural integrity, the museum said.
