Penned by Andre Breton and published in 1924, it comes from the collection of the late Simone Collinet, his first wife, and is valued by Sotheby's at 300,000 to 500,000 euros (US$468,500 to 780,800).

The auction house said eight other manuscripts that Breton gave to Collinet would also be sold on Wednesday.

Breton, who died in September 1966 at age 70, is regarded as the founder of surrealism, which he defined in the "Surrealist Manifesto" as "psychic automatism in its pure state."
