Kitaro to perform this Sunday in Taipei

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Grammy and Golden Globe-winning musician Kitaro will enthrall local audiences this Sunday as he kicks off his Love and Peace World Tour in the capital city’s Taipei Arena.

The Japanese composer and multi-instrumentalist has developed a signature sound and pioneered a fusion of techniques that have garnered him world acclaim throughout a career that spans over three decades.

Kitaro’s world tour will feature his latest project “Sacred Journey of KuKai III,” the third in a series of a collection of works and peace-themed albums inspired by the Buddhist monk Ku-kai’s pilgrimage over a millennium ago to the 88 sacred temples on Japan’s Shikoku Island.

The artist will perform an array of hand-picked songs for the Taiwanese audience, who will also have the rare opportunity to see him live onstage with American musicians as well as with his wife, musician Keiko Matsubara, who has played on several of his albums.

Concert goers can expect to see the artist playing his best on an assortment of musical instruments including an extra large Taiko drum. Kitaro plays several keyboard, string, wind, and percussion instruments, and has also mastered the synthesizer.

Other stops of Kitaro’s Love and Peace World Tour include the Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore.

Kitaro received a Grammy Award for the single track “The Field” as well as for his album “Thinking of You.” He also won a Golden Globe Award for the original movie soundtrack of Oliver Stone’s film “Heaven and Earth.”

He started his solo career in 1977 in his home country. The first two albums “Ten Kai” and “From the Full Moon Story” became cult favorites of the New Age movement.

His famous soundtrack for the Japanese television series “Silk Road” first brought him international attention in the early 80s.

A native of Toyohashi in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture, “Kitaro” is the stage name of Masanori Takahashi, whose friends gave him the pseudonym after a Japanese television cartoon character.
