Garcia, Cornet through to Wuhan quarters
French players Caroline Garcia and Alize Cornet made it through to the quarterfinals of the US$2.4 million WTA Wuhan Open Wednesday, and will fancy their chances in a tournament in which seeds have tumbled.
Austrlian Marinko Matosevic produced the first upset in the Malaysian Open on Tuesday when he downed eighth-seeded compatriot Nick Kyrgios 7-6 (7/4), 7-6 (7/3) in just over 90 minutes.

Local basketball team loses to Kazakhstan
Without its naturalized center Quincy Davis, Taiwan national basketball team proved no match for the much taller team from Kazakhstan yesterday as the team lost by six points at the Asian Games held at Incheon, South Korea.
Hsieh Su-wei (謝淑薇) and Chan Yung-jan (詹詠然) rarely play together and had a highly publicized dust-up before the Asian Games, but that hasn't stopped them from putting Taiwan within a match of winning gold in the women's tennis team competition at the Games.

Ivanovic defeats Wozniacki  to win Pan Pacific tourney
Ana Ivanovic charged the net repeatedly to overcome U.S. Open finalist Caroline Wozniacki 6-2, 7-6 (7/2) in the final of the WTA Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo Sunday.
